Home / CUCME / Configuring Extension Mobility on Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express

Extension Mobility feature has been added to CUCME beginning in release 4.2 and later.Enhancements like  Automatic Logout ,Automatic Clear Call History and Privacy on an Extension Mobility Phone were made in CUCME version 4.3.

In order to configure Extension Mobility on CUCME , here are the quick 4 mandatory steps involved:

  • Step1: Configure Cisco Unified CME for EM Service :

cucme-hq(config)#ip http server
cucme-hq(config)#telephony-service
cucme-hq(config-telephony)#url authentication http://192.168.15.2/CCMCIP/authenticate.asp appname cisco
cucme-hq(config-telephony)#authentication credential appname cisco
cucme-hq(config-telephony)#em keep-history
cucme-hq(config-telephony)#em logout 19:00 24:00

Explanation :

Here,we turned on HTTP server on the Cisco Unified CME router that hosts the service URL for the Extension Mobility Login and Logout pages. We configured URL authentication which instructs IP phones to send HTTP requests to the authentication server. Also,we created an entry for an EM application’s credential(appname) with password(cisco) in the CUCME database to be used by Authentication Server. This feature is optional and is required to support requests requests from applications other than Extension Mobility, such as Cisco VoiceView Express. We Configured EM to  keep call histories even if users log out from Extension Mobility phones. Finally ,at 19:00 HRS and 24:00 HRS , logged in users will be automatically logged out from EM Service.

  • Step2: Configure a Logout Profile for an IP Phone :

cucme-hq(config)#voice logout-profile 1
cucme-hq(config-logout-profile)#user 3001 password cisco
cucme-hq(config-logout-profile)#number 3001 type feature-ring
cucme-hq(config-logout-profile)#speed-dial 1 3002 blf
cucme-hq(config-logout-profile)#pin 9999

Explanation :

Here , We configured a Logout Profile  to define the default appearance for a Cisco Unified IP phone that is enabled for Extension Mobility , configured user credential , pin ,directory number with feature-ring type and enabled Busy Lamp Field (BLF) monitoring for a speed-dial number.

  • Step3: Enable an IP Phone for Extension Mobility :

cucme-hq(config-logout-profile)#ephone 1
cucme-hq(config-ephone)#logout-profile
1

Explanation :

Simply assign an ephone (Cisco IP Phone / CIPC) with logout-profile we defined in step 2.

  • Step4: Configure a User Profile:

cucme-hq(config-ephone)#voice user-profile 1
cucme-hq(config-user-profile)#pin 12345
cucme-hq(config-user-profile)#user em3101 pass cisco
cucme-hq(config-user-profile)#number 3101
cucme-hq(config-user-profile)#speed-dial 1 3102 blf
cucme-hq(config-user-profile)#max-idle-time 30

Explanation :

Configure User Profile for a phone user who logs into a Cisco Unified IP phone via EM.Here,we  defined user credential, directory number , Speed dial and an idle-duration timer for automatically logging out an Extension Mobility user.
